„Papias Revisited: Hebrew Gospel Studies in Israel“

Testimonies about Hebrew Origins of the Gospel Tradition are dating back to the earliest centuries of church history. However, in modern scholarship these have largely been dismissed as myths, since they seem to contradict both the predominant synoptic hypotheses and the likewise predominant assertion that Aramaic, not Hebrew, was the Language of the New Testament church. However, in the state of srael,
scholars from quite diverse backgrounds have developed alternative approaches which use Hebrew language as a tool for Gospel studies and which may shed new light on the old question of Hebrew Gospel
origins.
